Nearly all of us have areas of stubborn fat that refuse to shift, no matter how much we diet or exercise. So how does CoolSculpting work? Well, a number of years ago scientists discovered that when our skin is exposed to temperatures below freezing, the coldness caused irreversible damage to the fat cells, but not the skin itself (a process known as cryolipolysis). Over a period of time the body naturally excretes these damaged fat cells, with the resultant permanent loss of fat.
CoolSculpting will not help you lose weight – it can’t treat central visceral (organ) fat. Central fat is reduced with diet and exercise. However, the opposite is also true that diet and exercise does not target subcutaneous (under the skin or ‘pinchable’ fat). It is this subcutaneous fat which diminishes with Coolsculpting, as shown below.
